Amanda Brugel

(February 27 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on that part of the island of Montreal called the West Island. It is a part of the island that has been called "the West Island." West Island has a lot of communities. People who have never been aware of it frequently think it is a separate island facing west. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time was not long in the city. Brugel was raised in Courtice outside Oshawa Ontario. The first goal she had was to pursue a career as an actress but after a sudden increase in size, her friends weren't able to dance along with her. In an article that was published in the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall when wearing heels. When I outgrew my male companions, I quit. Many former dancers turn to acting, and in the case of Brugel it was a suggestion from her teacher in drama. The teacher who suggested she take on a part in the school's annual production. She tried out and ended up playing the leading role for the role in Anne of Green Gables. This led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program which she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000. Brugel's career spans over twenty years, and she's performed in more than 60 shows including big screen productions as well as smaller screens. Her most notable role was as Rita (pictured below) on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel appeared only on rare moments in the very first season of the series The Handmaid's tale. She was the only Canadian actor.
